Rank Insignia

1924 - C1953

Officers

RCAF Officer's rank insignia was identical to that worn by the RAF and other Commonwealth countries. It remained unchanged in Canadian service until Unification in 1967, but could be seen in wear until the early 1970s. Rank insignia was worn on the cuffs of the service dress jacket, and on epaulettes or slip-ons on greatcoats, battledress and shirts.

Postwar Airmen

For several years after the end of the Second World War, the patterns of Warrant and NCO rank insignia remained unchanged. Beginning around 1948, new patterns were introduced, the new and old patterns were worn concurrently until the insignia was standardised in the mid 1950's. These patterns then remained unchanged until Unification.

NCO's rank insignia were worn on the upper sleeve on all orders of dress, Warrant Officer's insignia were worn on the cuff.
