DEU Rank Insignia
Upon the adoption of the Distinctive Environmental Uniform (the reintroduction of separate uniforms for the Land, Sea, and Air elements), rank insignia was modified to reflect the changes. The Land Element retained the dark green backing, while the Air and Sea Elements adopted grey-blue and black, respectively. The rank slip-ons for female members were reduced in size by about 1/2 inch (1.3 cm), reflecting the generally smaller size of the uniforms.
New insignias of appointment for Warrant Officers were introduced

With Unification came a new pattern of rank insignia for General Officers. The symbol of a General was the traditional crossed sword and baton surmounted by the Royal Crown. Actual rank was indicated by one to four maple leaves below this insignia. In addition, a 1 3/4" gold stripe was worn on the cuff of the service dress jacket by all Generals. Naval Admirals and Commodores retained their traditional titles, but the Air Force lost theirs. As examples a former RCAF Air Vice Marshal was now titled a Major General and an Air Commodore became a Brigadier General.

Early version of the General Officer's rank slip-ons for the service dress shirt. Later versions were not as well detailed and the maple leaves were smaller. The insignia was worn in right and left facing pairs.
